As an artist Hans W. Koch prefers dealing with the obvious, albeit non self-evident. This can refer to using laptops very literally as musical instruments, as well as the translation of a theoretical space such as the ‘circle of fifths’ into real space with the help of 12 loudspeakers.
“I look at art in general as the molding of thoughts in different materials. Personally, I prefer conceptual approaches: More thought, less material.”
Since 2016 Koch has been Professor of Sound at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne.
